Day 240 – Friendship
Proverbs 27:9 Ointment and perfume delight the heart, and the sweetness of a man’s friend gives delight by hearty counsel. 10 Do not forsake your friend or your father’s friend, nor go to your brother’s house in the day of your calamity; better is a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.
- God’s names:
- Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
- Pater/Abba – Father
- Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
- God’s character:
- Friend
- Counselor
Friendship is like sweet perfume. It gives you someone to enjoy your day with, be there with you in times of trouble and in times of rejoicing. When trouble comes, they’re right there to walk with you.
Solomon knew the value of friendship. He knew how to be a friend, and he knew that a friendly person drew friends.
Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
Proverbs 18:24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
What kind of friend are you? Can people rely on you?
As Christians, you are to show the love of Christos to everyone you meet. Yeshuwa showed the people the meaning of true friendship. He told them a true friend would lay down his life for his friend.
John 15:12 “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Pater I have made known to you.
When you accepted Yeshuwa as Soter and Kurios, you accepted His friendship and recognized there is no greater friend than Him because He laid down His life for you.
What are you willing to do for your friend? The first thing you need to do is show yourself friendly. You won’t have friends if you’re not friendly. Yeshuwa showed His friendship to everyone. He didn’t turn a single person away who needed Him. Do people need you? Are you willing to sit with a person who is going through loss and needs someone to just sit quietly with them? Are you willing to attend their celebrations? What does friendship mean to you?
Friendship is not using people. Friendship is helping others and receiving help because you’re willing to be the kind of friend people can rely on.
People could rely on Yeshuwa to help them. He also relied on His disciples to take His message to the people when He sent them out two by two.
Friendship is not a one-way street. It’s give and take. It’s being available to help in time of need and being there to rejoice. Friendship is the most valuable thing you can give anyone.
Are you a friend people can depend on?
Let’s pray: Father, help me to be a friend people can depend on in good times and bad. Let me show my friendship to others because You showed me how to be a friend. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
