Day 245 – Petitions

Proverbs 27:15 A continual dripping on a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike; 16 whoever restrains her restrains the wind, and grasps oil with his right hand.

The sound of rain is pleasant to the ears when you first hear it, but if it goes on for a long time, it becomes annoying. The only sound your ears pick up is the constant dripping from the eaves and downspouts. A woman who does nothing but complain has the same effect on a person. You would sooner turn and go the other way than listen to her complaints and scorn about what caught her attention.

In a time when marriages were arranged and the men and women knew nothing about each other; men didn’t know what kind of woman they married until after the wedding. Solomon was well aware of that kind of marriage. With three-hundred wives and seven-hundred concubines, he was well-acquainted with every type of woman and could write proverbs about what was pleasant and what wasn’t. He could also stay away from the contentious ones.

Proverbs 11:22 As a ring of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a lovely woman who lacks discretion.

Proverbs 12:4 An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones.

Proverbs 18:22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from YAHWEH.

Solomon’s proverbs show his experience with women and also show that a good wife is a blessing from YAHWEH.

Today most people know what they’re getting into when they get married. They have spent months getting to know the person they want to spend the rest of their lives with. Yet people are unpredictable. They can act like the perfect person before the wedding and turn into a shrew the moment the ring is on the finger.

When you became a Christian, you learned that Yeshuwa is your bridegroom. What kind of bride are you? Do you bring continual complaints before Him? Do you expect Him to do everything you want when you want it done? By now, you know He isn’t that kind of husband. He is the head of your home, not you.

John the Baptist testified that Yeshuwa was the Bridegroom.

John 3:28 “You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christos,’ but, ‘I have been sent before Him.’ 29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore, this joy of mine is fulfilled.

Are you a continual dripping to Yeshuwa? Are your prayers a constant demand for things you believe you need?

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Yeshuwa prayed for the cup to pass from Him, but He also asked for the Abba’s will to be fulfilled through Him.

Matthew 26:36 Then Iesous came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” 39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Pater, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

When you pray, your prayers should show the submissive nature Yeshuwa exemplified. He did not demand that His Abba take the cup from Him. He prayed the Abba’s will. He knew the Abba’s will was for Him to die for the salvation of mankind. If He had not gone through with the crucifixion, you would be dead in your sins. Yeshuwa obeyed the Abba’s will, not His own.

Don’t be a continual dripping to Yeshuwa. He knows what you need before you ask.

Matthew 6:31 “Therefore, do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Pater knows that you need all these things.

Isaiah 65:24 “It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear.

Yeshuwa wants to know your needs, but not as a continual dripping or a demand for His services.

Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to Theos; 7 and the peace of Theos, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christos Iesous.

Paul told the Philippians to ask with THANKSGIVING. He didn’t tell them to make their requests sound like a demand or continual dripping.

When you are thankful, your prayers will reflect your gratefulness, and you won’t be a constant dripping before Yeshuwa. You will let Him work in His time for your needs.

Let’s pray: Father, give me patience and gratefulness when I bring my concerns before You. Don’t let me be a constant dripping in Your ear. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
