Day 246 – Friend

Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

• Friend

When did you meet your best friend? Why is he or she your best friend? What do you do together? Friends are the most important people in your life. From the moment you met, something clicked and you started doing things together. The more time you spent together, the more you found your life was better for the friendship. You could tell each other things that you knew would help them and not tear them down. You helped each other become better people.

When you take a dull blade and start sharpening it, it becomes a better tool — whether it’s a knife for cutting food, or an ax for cutting wood, the more you sharpen it, the better it becomes. The same is true of friendship.

Solomon knew that when he wrote this proverb. He knew the value of a good friendship. He also knew that the best friend a person could have was YAHWEH.

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Proverbs 18:24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Solomon knew that the Friend who sticks closer than a brother was YAHWEH.

What kind of friends do you have? Do they sharpen you when you get together? What about your closest friend? Yeshuwa calls you His friend. There is no one who stands by you in every situation in your life better than Him. When you read His Word, He sharpens your understanding and shows you how to be a friend to others.

John 15:14 “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Pater I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Pater in My name He may give you. 17 These things I command you, that you love one another.

It isn’t hard to be Yeshuwa’s friend. He called you His friend before you knew Him. He chose you as His friend before you chose Him. He only asks one thing of you for His friendship — love one another. You can’t know how to do that unless you read His Word. He gives you all the guidelines for friendship. Your only task is to do what He tells you. That’s what friends do for each other. It’s how you sharpen each other.

You can have no better friend than Yeshuwa.

Let’s pray: Father, help me to be a friend to those I meet. Help me to love them just as You love me. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
