Day 248 – Mirror

Proverbs 27:19 As in water face reflects face, so a man’s heart reveals the man.

• Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
• Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
• Theos – Supreme Divinity

• Mirror

How many mirrors do you have in your home? Do you carry one in your purse? People like to know what they look like. What about how others see you? People can see what the mirror doesn’t show — they see your heart — your personality by how you treat others. What does that mirror show people about you?

Your life is a mirror, not only what is seen on the outside, but what is seen on the inside.

Solomon was a good observer of people’s character — what the heart revealed about a person. Countless people came through his courts daily. He could tell what kind of person they were as soon as they opened their mouths. Solomon relied on YAHWEH’S wisdom to show him man’s heart.

Proverbs 20:27 The spirit of a man is the lamp of YAHWEH, searching all the inner depths of his heart.

There’s another mirror — the soul, seen by YAHWEH. You can look in the mirror and see your reflection. You can stand in a roomful of people and see their character — their heart, but YAHWEH sees the inner mirror of the heart — who you truly are.

That’s why David asked YAHWEH to search him and know him.

Psalm 139:23 Search me, O El, and know my heart; try me and know my anxieties; 24 and see if there is any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.

What brought you to Christos? What made you see yourself the way El sees you? What brought you to your knees at the altar?

When you spend time in the mirror of Yeshuwa’s Word, you will see the hidden motives of your heart that only Yeshuwa sees.

James 1:19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of Theos. 21 Therefore, lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

When you gave your heart to Yeshuwa at the altar and asked Him to search out every wicked thought and change your heart, so it lined up with His heart, He washed your soul clean. You felt that cleansing because you felt like a new person, wholly clean.

Have you lived in that newness? Solomon knew what his father taught him — he needed YAHWEH to search him daily so he could not only appear as a man who followed YAHWEH, but the people knew he did too.

Do people know you are a Christian? What do people see in you when you mingle with other believers? What does your soul reveal to the people around you? What do non-believers see in you?

The mirror can show you your face. People can see your heart, but Yeshuwa sees your soul. Ask Yeshuwa to search you today and everyday so that no wickedness comes near you.

Let’s pray: Father, You know me better than I know myself. The mirror shows me what I look like. When I’m with others, people see my heart, but You see my soul. Cleanse me — my thoughts, my motives, the person I think I am, but You know. Cleanse me and wash me with Your Word daily and remove everything that works against Your Word. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
