Day 249 – Life

Proverbs 27:20 Hell and Destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

When you watch the news, read the newspaper, or walk in your neighborhood or city, you know people are never satisfied with what they have, they want more. Sin is everywhere and is always hungry for whatever pleasures people indulge in.

Solomon knew the depravity of man. He said he enjoyed everything he could but found it worthless.

Ecclesiastes 2:1 I said in my heart, “Come now, I will test you with mirth; therefore, enjoy pleasure”; but surely, this also was vanity. 2 I said of laughter— “Madness!”; and of mirth, “What does it accomplish?” 3 I searched in my heart how to gratify my flesh with wine, while guiding my heart with wisdom, and how to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was good for the sons of men to do under heaven all the days of their lives. 4 I made my works great; I built houses and planted vineyards. 5 I made gardens and orchards, and I planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. 6 I made water pools from which to water the growing trees of the grove. 7 I acquired male and female servants, and had servants born in my house. Yes, I had greater possessions of herds and flocks than all who were in Jerusalem before me. 8 I also gathered for myself silver and gold and the special treasures of kings and of the provinces. I acquired male and female singers, the delights of the sons of men, and musical instruments of all kinds. 9 So I became great and excelled more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. Also, my wisdom remained with me. 10 Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart rejoiced in all my labor; and this was my reward from all my labor. 11 Then I looked at all the work that my hands had done and on the labor in which I had toiled; and indeed, all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun.

Solomon knew that he could have and do everything, but if there wasn’t purpose, it was meaningless. Folly and avarice led to hell and destroyed the soul.

Only one thing mattered in life.

Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear Elohiym and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. 14 For Elohiym will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.

What was your life like before you gave it to Yeshuwa? Did you enjoy life until you found it meaningless as Solomon did? When did you realize there was more to life than the pleasures found in bars and exotic clubs? Did your marriage suffer?

The pleasures of this world are dominated by one person — Satan. He wants to destroy your life. He will keep you blind to the truth only found in Yeshuwa Christos.

In His Sermon on the Mount, Yeshuwa taught the people about the two paths a person can take. One leads to life and the other to destruction.

Matthew 7:13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. (NKJV)

When you gave your life to Yeshuwa, you started down the narrow path, leading to eternal life. It’s not an easy path. It’s rocky. You will want to give up and turn off the narrow path, but if you stay the course, you will attain eternal life. You will soon see that the pleasures of this world aren’t worth the destruction of your soul.

Which path are you on — the one with the bottomless appetite that cries out for your soul because it’s never full — or the one that provides meaning for your journey as you look to Yeshuwa to lead you through the gate to eternal life? The decision is yours.

Let’s pray: Father, life is full of temptation. Sin is everywhere. Give me discernment to know when I’m about to stray from the narrow path. Be my guide through life. I know the way will be bumpy, and I might trip over the rocks, but keep my feet steady as I walk with You by my side. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
