Day 254 – Obedience

Proverbs 28:2 Because of the transgression of a land, many are its princes; but by a man of understanding and knowledge right will be prolonged.

The number one complaint about any people is the government they live under. During election years you will hear advertisements about how those seeking office vows to make things better than the person in office at the present time. People across the world know which lands have political unease. It’s the land as much as the people who suffer when the government is corrupt.

When Solomon built the temple and dedicated it to YAHWEH, he asked YAHWEH to forgive His people if they turned away from Him and then saw their sin and returned to Him. YAHWEH answered his prayer with specific consequences He would give the people if they didn’t follow Him.

2 Chronicles 7:12 Then YAHWEH appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him, “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. 13 When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 15 Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place. 16 For now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that My name may be there forever; and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually. 17 As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, and do according to all that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My judgments, 18 then I will establish the throne of your kingdom, as I covenanted with David your father, saying, ‘You will not fail to have a man as ruler in Israel.’ 19 But if you turn away and forsake My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods, and worship them, 20 then I will uproot them from My land which I have given them; and this house which I have sanctified for My name I will cast out of My sight, and will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples. 21 And as for this house, which is exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say, ‘Why has YAHWEH done thus to this land and this house?’ 22 Then they will answer, ‘Because they forsook YAHWEH Elohiym of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other elohiyms, and worshiped them and served them; therefore, He has brought all this calamity on them.’”

Solomon knew what the Law said. YAHWEH commanded that kings should read it daily. When he prayed the prayer of dedication, it was with the Law in mind — the Law that YAHWEH proclaimed what he would do if His people disobeyed Him.

Leviticus 26:14 ‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments, 15 and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant, 16 I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which will consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you will sow your seed in vain, for your enemies will eat it. 17 I will set My face against you, and you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will reign over you, and you will flee when no one pursues you. 18 And after all this, if you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. 19 I will break the pride of your power; I will make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze. 20 And your strength will be spent in vain; for your land will not yield its produce, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit. 21 Then, if you walk contrary to Me, and are not willing to obey Me, I will bring on you seven times more plagues, according to your sins. 22 I will also send wild beasts among you, which will rob you of your children, destroy your livestock, and make you few in number; and your highways will be desolate. 23 And if by these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me, 24 then I also will walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins. 25 And I will bring a sword against you that will execute the vengeance of the covenant; when you are gathered together within your cities I will send pestilence among you; and you will be delivered into the hand of the enemy. 26 When I have cut off your supply of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven, and they will bring back your bread by weight, and you will eat and not be satisfied. 27 And after all this, if you do not obey Me, but walk contrary to Me, 28 then I also will walk contrary to you in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. 29 You will eat the flesh of your sons, and you will eat the flesh of your daughters. 30 I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and cast your carcasses on the lifeless forms of your idols; and My soul will abhor you. 31 I will lay your cities waste and bring your sanctuaries to desolation, and I will not smell the fragrance of your sweet aromas. 32 I will bring the land to desolation, and your enemies who dwell in it will be astonished at it. 33 I will scatter you among the nations and draw out a sword after you; your land will be desolate and your cities waste. 34 Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in your enemies’ land; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. 35 As long as it lies desolate it will rest — for the time it did not rest on your sabbaths when you dwelt in it.

You can look at a map of the world and see those countries that look like wastelands — deserts where nothing grows and people live with starvation. You can look at the country where you live and see how far the country has fallen from the moment people stepped onto the land and dedicated it to YAHWEH. It is hard to find YAHWEH when the government has taken Him out of society and made laws that contradict their original dedication of the land to YAHWEH.

As Christians, you have one commission — to go into the world and make disciples of all nations.

Matthew 28:18 And Iesous came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Pater and of the Huios and of the Hagios Pneuma, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Nothing you do as a Christian, you do alone. Yeshuwa is with you everywhere you go. When you do what He commanded, your land will enjoy the fruit of your labor. Your lives will see abundance, and you will see Yeshuwa’s blessings in everything you do. However, if you disobey Him as His people did so that YAHWEH sent them into exile until they returned to Him, you will see the same lack in your lives.

No one wants to see lack. They want to enjoy the blessings YAHWEH promises throughout His Word. Among those blessings are the consequences for disobedience — and your land will also suffer for your disobedience.

YAHWEH’S promise is summed up in one verse:

2 Ch 7:14 “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (NKJV)

Not only will YAHWEH forgive you, but He will also heal your land.

What has Yeshuwa called you to do for Him? Are you doing it? Are you seeing the blessings of obedience or the consequences of disobedience?

Humble yourself and pray. Seek His face. Turn from your sinful ways. Only then will Yeshuwa hear you and forgive you. Only then will your land also see His blessings.

Let’s pray: Father, forgive me for not doing what You called me to do, not going where You want me to go and not fulfilling the commission You placed on my life. Heal my life and my land as I turn my life to You and walk in obedience to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
