What’s the best way to explore a new city?

I’ve moved to new cities a couple of times in my life. I found the best way to explore a new city happened quite by accident – I got lost.

I have no sense of direction. Literally. I’ve left home to go to a store and found myself taking three hours to get home because I didn’t leave the store out of the parking lot the same way I entered it. I did this twice. Once during the daytime, and once at night. Once from home, once from a hotel room before we found a new place to live. At the time it was embarrassing, but I did learn my way around.

I also got lost when we moved back to Green Bay after the military. That was another hour long ride around Green Bay.

I’ve often joked that my middle name should have been Lost instead of Jean. It would have made better sense, at least for my sense of direction.
