Day 261 – Discernment

Proverbs 28:10 Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, he himself will fall into his own pit; but the blameless will inherit good.

  • God’s names:
  • YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Elohiym – Supreme God
  • Hagios Pneuma – Sacred, Holy, Violent Wind, Breath, Spirit
  • Theos – Supreme Divinity
  • God’s character:
  • Upright
  • Righteous

People are known for their reputations, either good or bad. Parents often caution their children to stay away from children who always get into trouble or cause trouble. When you entered school, you knew who those kids were that were always in trouble or were the ones who caused it. The same is true in the adult world. Their reputations precede them and you find jails and prisons filled with people with bad reputations.

Solomon dealt directly with people everyday both as king of Israel and as a landowner and employer. He knew those who caused trouble and told the people to stay away from them because their trouble would find them. However, those who kept themselves blameless would inherit YAHWEH’S blessings.

His father, David, had warned him about people who caused trouble.

Psalm 7:15 He made a pit and dug it out and has fallen into the ditch which he made. 16 His trouble will return upon his own head, and his violent dealing will come down on his own crown.

When you became a Christian, you learned who you could trust to preach the gospel with truth and righteousness. You also saw and heard what happened to those who tried to lead you astray with a different gospel.

Galatians 1:6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christos, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christos. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

When Yeshuwa started teaching the people, they immediately saw the difference between what He taught them and what the scribes taught them.

Matthew 7:28 And so it was, when Iesous had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

The scribes were the ones who wrote out the Law and interpreted it to the people. When Yeshuwa taught them what the Law said and not the way the scribes interpreted it, they knew that what they heard from Yeshuwa was the unfiltered Word of Elohiym, and they marveled at His doctrine.

Those Christians who put their own spin on the gospel, leading people astray, will find themselves in trouble, not only with YAHWEH but also with the law.

You have seen in the past how Christians who used the gospel for their own gain ended up in prison and lost their ministry. They fell into the pit they dug.

You have the Hagios Pneuma in your lives to give you discernment in everything you hear. Don’t just accept what you hear but search the Scripture and read it for yourself. When you do, you will know the inerrant truth of the Word of Theos.

Let Yeshuwa, your Soter and Kurios lead you and the Hagios Pneuma give you discernment in everything you hear.

Let’s pray: Father, give me discernment to know when I hear Your Word spoken in truth. Shield me from those who want to lead me astray to another gospel. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
