The best and only online course I’ve ever taken was from The Institute of Children’s Literature. I think it took me two years to complete at my own pace. It taught me the fundamentals for not only writing for children, but writing in general. Everything I learned I have used consistently with my adult fiction. The rules are the same whether writing for children or adults.
From this course I have many children’s stories, unpublished, but some of them remain my favorite stories. When I got my diploma they sent me a letter asking me to continue with adult fiction writing that had just opened up. I didn’t pursue it because my funds were limited.
I graduated in 2006 and published my first children’s story in an online ezine that not only got published in the initial ezine, but went into the yearly ezine as well. That made me feel good and gave me the motivation to get my other books published as well. I graduated in 2006 and published Scarred for the first time in 2012.
I’m currently working on getting all the books you see into a new edition and published with IngramSpark. They will be available nationwide starting next year.
What is the best online course you took? Thanks for reading.
