Day 272 – Honesty

Proverbs 28:24 Whoever robs his father or his mother, and says, “It is no transgression,” the same is companion to a destroyer.

  • God’s names:
  • Elohiym – Supreme God
  • YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
  • God’s character:
  • Honorable

Robbery takes place every day, but the worst robbery is when people steal from their own families. They don’t consider it stealing because they feel it belongs to them.

Solomon told the people that those who steal from their own families are companions to destroyers. He told his son to stay away from evil people who wanted to destroy their lives.

Proverbs 1:10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. 11 If they say, “Come with us, let us lie in wait to shed blood; let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause; 12 let us swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down to the pit; 13 we will find all kinds of precious possessions, we will fill our houses with spoil; 14 cast in your lot among us, let us all have one purse” — 15 My son, do not walk in the way with them, keep your foot from their path; 16 for their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood. 17 Surely, in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird; 18 but they lie in wait for their own blood, they lurk secretly for their own lives. 19 So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; it takes away the life of its owners.

Solomon knew the Commandments of YAHWEH that said, “Thou shalt not steal.” He also knew that stealing, dealing falsely, and lying were also among the commandments YAHWEH told His people they were not to do. One leads to another until people believe it’s okay to steal from their own families.

Leviticus 19:11 ‘You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another. 12 And you shall not swear by My name falsely, nor shall you profane the name of your Elohiym: I am YAHWEH.

When you became a Christian, you committed yourself to obedience to Yeshuwa Christos. That meant you were to obey the same commandments YAHWEH gave His people.

When the Pharisees came to Yeshuwa about His disciples not obeying the tradition of the elders. He told them that the tradition of the elders said it was okay to disobey one’s parents.

Mark 7:9 He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of Theos, that you may keep your tradition. 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 11 But you say, ‘’If a man says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban”—’ (that is, a gift to Theos), 12 then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother, 13 making the word of Theos of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”

The traditions of the elders made it lawful for children to steal from their parents and call it a gift to Theos. Yeshuwa told them it was better to obey the Law than the traditions of men.

Stealing is not only a sin against the commandments YAHWEH gave Moses for the children of Israel, but also against the law of man. Prisons are full of people who rob others. One thing that is still hard to find in prison is people who rob from their families. When parents find out the theft came from a family member, they drop the charges, allowing their children to keep disobeying the law until they are caught robbing someone other than their own families. Which is why Solomon told his son not to run with evil people who persuade others it’s okay to be disobedient to Elohiym’s laws.

It’s not okay. Yet people not only rob their families, but they also rob Elohiym. If you call yourself a child of Elohiym, you are not exempt from the law. People have been found not only to rob from their families but from the church and call it giving to Yeshuwa. It’s not giving to Yeshuwa, it’s giving to themselves in the name of Yeshuwa. When you do you rob from the body of Christos and Yeshuwa will not hold you guiltless.

It’s time to stop making excuses that allow you to disobey Yeshuwa’s law and become obedient in everything He commands.

Let’s pray: Father, search my heart and my life. If I have been disobedient to You in any way, cleanse my heart so I will not rob You of what belongs to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
