Day 275 – Blessing

Proverbs 28:27 He who gives to the poor will not lack, but he who hides his eyes will have many curses.

  • God’s names:
  • YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Elohiym – Supreme God
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Huios of Anthropos – Son of Man
  • Basileus – King
  • Pater/Abba – Father
  • Kurios – Supreme Authority
  • God’s character:
  • Provider
  • Blesser

You often hear about celebrities who give generously to humanitarian relief efforts. Soon they become known as philanthropists. While those who have little to give and still give aren’t noted for their efforts. One does it to be seen while those who go unnoticed do it because of the generosity of their hearts. What about those who see the need, have the ability to do something about it, but keep their hands in their pockets? People soon call them a scrooge. They also feel the emptiness of their hearts.

Solomon was the wealthiest person of his time. By today’s standards, he would still be the wealthiest. He spoke often about giving to the poor and how YAHWEH blessed those who gave, but those who could and didn’t, would see YAHWEH’S curse on their lives.

Solomon also knew what the Law said about giving to the poor.

Deuteronomy 15:7 “If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which YAHWEH your Elohiym is giving you, you will not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother, 8 but you will open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need, whatever he needs.

Proverbs 19:17 He who has pity on the poor lends to YAHWEH, and He will pay back what he has given.

YAHWEH pays back what is given. When you give, you lose nothing. You receive so much more from YAHWEH when you give with a pure heart, not a heart that wants people to notice their efforts.

As Christians, you often hear about the needs of those in impoverished countries and the many needs they have. There are many organizations who help and provide for their needs, giving people like you and me the opportunity to give to them so they can help. When you give to organizations like Convoy of Hope or Samaritan’s Purse, you are helping those who don’t have the means to help themselves. There is also an organization called Doctors Without Borders who provide medical help free of charge to those who need it.

When you can give and don’t, you bring a curse on your life because YAHWEH told the people to give to the poor. When they did, He would bless them. Yeshuwa also told the people what would happen if they didn’t help those in need.

Matthew 25:31 “When the Huios of Anthropos comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the Basileus will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Pater, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35’for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Kurios, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the Basileus will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ 41 Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’ 44 Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Kurios, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

When you consider the blessings you receive from Yeshuwa when you give to those in need, and the curse when you don’t, your immediate response should be to give. Not because of what was promised, but from a pure heart, holding nothing back. When you do, Yeshuwa will bless you with the ultimate blessing being eternal life, while those who don’t help will receive their ultimate curse — everlasting punishment.

What do you want in your life — blessing or cursing? That might seem like a duh answer, yet there are many people with the ability to give but don’t or look at giving as what’s in it for me. Those who look at giving as what’s in it for me will not receive Yeshuwa’s blessing because they give from an impure heart. Yeshuwa looks at the motives of the heart.

What are your motives? Do you give because you love Yeshuwa and you couldn’t think of doing anything else, or do you give because it will look good in the eyes of the world?

I would rather receive Yeshuwa’s blessing than the world’s praise. What about you?

Let’s pray: Father, give me a generous heart not for the praise of the world, but for Your blessing in my life. Take away any impure thoughts or motives and let me open my hands to those in need and not keep them clenched shut. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
