Day 277 – Teachable
Proverbs 29:1 He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
- God’s names:
- YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
- Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
- Elohiym – Supreme God
- Theos – Supreme Divinity
- Kurios/KURIOS – Supreme Authority
- Soter – Savior
- God’s character:
- Wisdom
- Counsel
- Knowledge
Have you tried to help someone who wouldn’t listen? They insisted on doing things their own way. Their stubbornness continually got them in trouble, yet they refused correction. Their attitude was like a stubborn mule who refuses to move no matter how hard you goad him. It is the same with an unteachable person.
Solomon understood that kind of person. He saw it in his family, his courts, and among his servants. He spoke often about the wisdom of a person’s actions and called people to use wisdom instead of stubbornness in their actions.
Proverbs 1:20 Wisdom calls aloud outside; she raises her voice in the open squares. 21 She cries out in the chief concourses, at the openings of the gates in the city she speaks her words: 22 “How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? For scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge. 23 Turn at my rebuke; surely, I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you. 24 Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded, 25 because you disdained all my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, 27 when your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. 28 Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of YAHWEH, 30 they would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke. 31 Therefore, they will eat the fruit of their own way and be filled to the full with their own fancies. 32 For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; 33 but whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil.”
When you accepted Yeshuwa as Soter and Kurios, you asked Him to teach you, but did you learn or did you have an idea about what needed to be done and no matter how much someone told you the correct way, you didn’t listen? Or were you the one who tried to teach the unteachable person and no matter how often you tried, nothing worked because of the hardness of their hearts.
In your walk with Yeshuwa, you will meet many people who have their own ideas about Elohiym. They have followed the same rituals their entire lives and cannot be persuaded to follow Yeshuwa and His Word instead of the traditions they have always known.
Yeshuwa told the scribes and Pharisees that their traditions took people away from YAHWEH instead of toward Him.
Matthew 15:1 Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Iesous, saying, 2 “Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.” 3 He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of Theos because of your tradition? 4 For Theos commanded, saying, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 5 But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to Theos” — 6 ‘then he need not honor his father or mother.’ Thus you have made the commandment of Theos of no effect by your tradition. 7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: 8 ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. 9 And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”
You need a teachable spirit when you sit under the authority of your pastor who preaches the Word without compromise. You need to listen and not close your ears to rebuke when you compromise Yeshuwa’s Word.
Hebrews 12:4 You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of KURIOS, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; 6 For whom KURIOS loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.” 7 If you endure chastening, Theos deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? 8 But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Should we not much more readily be in subjection to the Pater of spirits and live? 10 For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. 11 Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
When you submit yourself to Yeshuwa with a teachable spirit, you will find the consequences of obedience bring blessings not condemnation and curses.
Let’s pray: Father, give me a teachable spirit. Help me listen when You rebuke me and change my ways to become more obedient to You in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
