Day 284 – Peacemaker

Proverbs 29:8 Scoffers set a city aflame, but wise men turn away wrath.

  • God’s names:
  • YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Theos – Supreme Divinity
  • Huios of David – Son of David
  • Pneuma – Violent Wind, Breath, Spirit
  • God’s character:
  • Wisdom
  • Peace

You don’t need to look far to find a disagreeable person. They’re in families, workplaces, neighborhoods, church, and government. They are everywhere. Present an idea and someone will shoot it down and give you nine ways against Sunday why it won’t work. But there is always one person who enters the room and immediately gives you one reason why it will and it will be indisputable. People focus on why something won’t work; they don’t consider what will.

Solomon met with countless people daily. He saw scoffers and he saw those who could calm people with wisdom. Solomon knew that soft answers and calm spirits ruled a city more than a person with a bad temper.

Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Solomon relied on YAHWEH for wisdom to calm a situation that caused trouble. Wisdom assesses the situation, brings calm, and turns away anger. Wisdom shows the better way. Wisdom brings reason.

If there is one person in history that could become angry because everyone mocked Him, called Him a liar, and told Him He was in league with Beelzebub, it is Yeshuwa. Yet when confronted by the Pharisees, He didn’t answer with anger or on their terms, He showed them the right way to act. He distilled the situation instead of inflaming it.

Matthew 12:22 Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. 23 And all the multitudes were amazed and said, “Could this be the Huios of David?” 24 Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.” 25 But Iesous knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore, they will be your judges. 28 But if I cast out demons by the Pneuma of Theos, surely the kingdom of Theos has come upon you.

Yeshuwa answered every provocation with wisdom and a calm spirit. He never answered the Pharisees according to their disagreeable nature.

In His Sermon on the Mount, Yeshuwa told the people that peacemakers were the ones who would find blessings in their lives. Every one of the Beatitudes is an answer to wrath.

Matthew 5:1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see Theos. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of Theos. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Yeshuwa knew how to calm the storm with His voice. He didn’t need to shout to be heard. He only needed to be present, and everyone became calm and listened to the voice of reason.

When their scorn got them nowhere, the Pharisees turned away from Him and plotted how they could destroy Him.

When you walk into a room, do you incite anger or do you bring calm?

As Christians, you are Christos followers. You are to lead by example. Yeshuwa taught how to turn away wrath. The Pharisees incited wrath. Instead of igniting the flame of anger. Put it out with a calm demeanor and a soft answer.

When you walk into a room, be the person people are drawn to because of your calm and wise nature.

Let’s pray: Father, give me wisdom and discernment to stop anger with a calm spirit. Let Your wisdom flow through me so that I will bring peace and not conflict everywhere I go. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
