Day 285 – Wisdom

Proverbs 29:9 If a wise man contends with a foolish man, whether the fool rages or laughs, there is no peace.

Whether you have two people or two hundred in the same room, they will find something to argue about. Each is convinced they are right and the other foolish as they try to persuade the other to their position. Eventually they part ways with nothing resolved between them and each thinking the other is foolish.

Solomon spoke to the people about being wise in your own eyes.

Proverbs 3:7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear YAHWEH and depart from evil. 8 It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.

When YAHWEH asked Solomon what He could give him, Solomon asked for only one thing — wisdom. He knew that to rule the kingdom without wisdom was foolish. Throughout his reign, Solomon saw many foolish people come through his courts. He recognized them for their foolishness and understood that contending with them would make him look like a fool and give the other person something to laugh or rage about. Neither was profitable nor healthy.

If you were to poll everyone you know, they would all tell you they are wise. Nobody recognizes foolish behavior in themselves.

As children of Yeshuwa, you know that true wisdom comes from Him. Have you ever contended against Him? No? Have you ever prayed for something and found the answer was no and then pleaded your cause with Him? Let’s be honest, we have all contended with Yeshuwa. We all believe we are right about what we want for ourselves and our families.

When you open Yeshuwa’s Word, and read what He says about wisdom, righteousness, love, and forgiveness, you will find grace — His grace to help you see life from His perspective.

Isaiah had strong words from YAHWEH about being wise in your own eyes.

Isaiah 5:18 Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as if with a cart rope; 19 that say, “Let Him make speed and hasten His work, that we may see it; and let the counsel of the Qadowsh of Israel draw near and come, that we may know it.” 20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! 22 Woe to men mighty at drinking wine, woe to men valiant for mixing intoxicating drink, 23 who justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away justice from the righteous man! 24 Therefore, as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root will be as rottenness, and their blossom will ascend like dust; because they have rejected the law of YAHWEH of Tsaba’ and despised the word of the Qadowsh of Israel.

Paul told the people that everything was expedient to him but not everything was profitable.

1 Corinthians 6:12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. 13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but Theos will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for Kurios, and Kurios for the body. 14 And Theos both raised up Kurios and will also raise us up by His power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christos? Shall I then take the members of Christos and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!

Yet, when you, a child of the living Theos, argue with another person, whether they are a Christian or not, you show the other person your foolishness, not your wisdom. The best thing you can do is walk away from the argument. Then you will retain your wisdom, the wisdom given to you from Theos.

Yeshuwa is not honored by your argument, but by your obedience. When you open His Word to read and study it, then He will approve you.

2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to Theos, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Do not be right in your own eyes. Look to Yeshuwa and read what His Word says and walk in righteousness and humility. When you do, you will show the wisdom of Yeshuwa in your life.

Let’s pray: Father, help me to walk in Your wisdom and not in the wisdom of this world, which is foolishness. Give me Your grace as I walk through this life with You by my side. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
