Day 287 – Wisdom
Proverbs 29:11 A fool vents all his feelings, but a wise man holds them back.
- God’s names:
- YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
- Theos – Supreme Divinity
- Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
- Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
- God’s character:
- Wisdom
- Righteousness
Do you know people who vent all their troubles on whoever will listen? You soon turn and walk the other way when you see them coming. Do you know people who think they know all the answers to your problems or think they know the best way to accomplish something? They have the loudest voice in the boardroom. They know how to solve the world’s problems. Do you know someone who lets others speak and gives no opinions or answers until people notice he’s the quietest person in the room?
Solomon was both king and landowner. He had servants and he had counselors. In both he saw those who had opinions about everything, but the person he trusted most was the person who listened and gave no judgment until called upon.
What did Solomon say about wise and foolish people?
Proverbs 14:33 Wisdom rests in the heart of him who has understanding, but what is in the heart of fools is made known.
Proverbs 16:32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
Proverbs 17:27 He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of a calm spirit. 28 Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; when he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.
Solomon knew the people he could trust were those who trusted YAHWEH for wisdom and understanding.
Who do you trust? Many Christians are just as outspoken. They’ve read the Bible through one time and believe they have the answers to all the world’s problems; they certainly have all the answers for what is wrong in their congregations.
Look at what James said about those who are outspoken in the body of Christos.
James 1:19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of Theos.
Yeshuwa said you would be accountable for everything you say.
Matthew 12:34 “Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (NKJV)
Knowing you’re being held accountable for the words you speak, a person should listen more. When you do, you will hear Yeshuwa’s wisdom and not your own.
Let’s pray: Father, help me listen more when people speak, so I can hear from You and not from my understanding. Give me Your understanding and wisdom in everything I say and make me slow to speak everything on my mind. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
