- Elohiym – Supreme God
- Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
- Kurios – Supreme Authority
- God’s character:
- Love
- Wisdom
Do you ever wonder why you see so many children out of control? Older adults look at them and remember their younger years when they would have been disciplined for bad behavior. Many people want to blame parents. A close look shows it’s not the parents but the government that took discipline out of parents’ hands. There are so many laws today that protect the children from discipline that children are out of control. It’s no longer the parents’ fault.
Solomon knew the only way to discipline children was with the rod and rebuke. The rod was the Law of Moses. Without it, children brought shame to their mother. Solomon knew YAHWEH gave direction in the Law of Moses for disciplining children. When people disciplined their children, they obeyed the Law.
Deuteronomy 6:6 “And these words which I command you today will be in your heart. 7 You will teach them diligently to your children and will talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which YAHWEH your Elohiym is giving you.
As Christians, you are commanded to bring up your children in the fear and admonition of Kurios. When you do, you honor Yeshuwa.
Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in Kurios, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” 4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of Kurios.
What does it mean to provoke your children to wrath?
It doesn’t mean not to discipline them. It means paying attention to your children. Loving them. Don’t give them a reason to disobey you. A child who is shown love will obey their parents.
Colossians 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to Kurios. 21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
When you show your children you love them, they will obey you and you won’t have children out of control.
Let’s pray: Father, help me to be a good parent, showing my children the love You showed me. Let me be an example of Your love to my children. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
